Temazcal - Ibiza, Spain
Our ancestors conceived the temazcal as a symbol of the womb of Mother Earth — a sacred space for renewal and rebirth. Inspired by this ancestral wisdom, this installation reinterprets that concept as a contemporary refuge from the stress and acceleration of modern life. Today’s society moves at an overwhelming pace, generating chronic stress and emotional imbalance that directly impact both body and mind. Light and sound become tools to counteract this tension, supporting muscle relaxation and encouraging a slower heart rate and deeper states of calm.
Modern environments are typically tuned to 440 Hz, the international standard since the mid-20th century. In this project, I work with 432 Hz — a subtle yet perceptible shift that resonates differently within the body, often associated with harmony and emotional release. Through immersive sound vibrations, the installation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, inviting restoration and introspection. Complementing this, chromotherapy integrates eight colors aligned with different physical and emotional dimensions, enhancing balance and well-being.
For this installation, I was responsible for the lighting design and programming, as well as the sound design, shaping a unified sensory experience where frequency, vibration, and color converge. The piece is dedicated to those who intuit that there is more beyond the visible — a reminder of compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and the inner light we all carry.
